With over 30 years of experience across human resources and employment relations, Attwell has worked within leading private sector organisations including Tiger Brands, Sasol Mining, Bushveld Minerals, the Chamber of Mines, Gibela, Kelly, and PAG.
His career spans diverse industries including mining, manufacturing, recruitment, rail, academic institutions, and labour relations environments, shaping him into a seasoned employment relations strategist and conflict resolution specialist.
Mediation & Arbitration Experience
Attwell completed a year-long internship at the Independent Mediation Service of South Africa (IMSSA), focusing on Relationship-by-Objectives (RBO) research, followed by five years at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) as a commissioner and trainer for bargaining councils.
He has mediated sectoral bargaining disputes, mutual interest disputes, and complex workplace conflicts, including the successful facilitation of mergers within State-Owned Enterprises.
Accredited by Conflict Dynamics, the International Mediation Institute (IMI), and the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), he applies a structured yet flexible mediation style grounded in neutrality and joint problem-solving.
Facilitation & Strategic Engagement
Attwell has led multi-party facilitation processes including Section 189 and 197 consultations, executive strategy sessions, and Relationship-by-Objectives (RBO) engagements.
